Walnuts are round, single-seeded stone fruits of the walnut tree and hence botanically speaking not true nuts. A native to Persia (English walnut) and North America (black walnut), they are one of the most popular of the Super nuts family.

The English walnut is the variety most commonly used across the world. They rightly add nutritive value to make a healthy balanced diet with a battery of nutrients like omega 3 fats, vitamin E, niacin, minerals like calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, zinc, phosphorus, small amounts of proteins, fibre, and antioxidants like polyphenols.

Health Benefits:

  • The much talked about omega 3 fatty acids in walnuts, help to prevent damage to the blood vessels and decrease the bad cholesterol; both attributes being conducive for a healthy heart.
  • Walnuts supply minerals that are fundamental to improving bone health.
  • They also help to prevent cancers and improve gut health owing to the anti-inflammatory properties of the antioxidants.
  • Walnuts not only replicate the appearance of a tiny brain but also are actually brain boosters. They improve brain function and decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease.
  • These super nuts also promote healthy aging.

Walnuts can be used widely in roasted or raw forms in salads, whole wheat bread, desserts, dips, pasta sauces, stir-fries, homemade energy bars, cereal mixes, or simply consumed in its most virgin form.

Walnuts should be best stored in the freezer to prevent the rancidity of the fat. If stored at room temperature it should be in a dry cool place, in the shelled form. Any appearance of fungus or bitter taste of the walnuts makes it unfit for consumption.

With the appearance that mimics your brain, and qualities that can keep your heart smiling, welcome this super nut with both your hands in your daily diet!
