One of the most important habits for a healthy lifestyle is the regular morning visit to the washroom for you to have a comfortable smiling stomach. However, this simple activity has become quite a modern-day struggle, leading to health issues like Constipation.

Constipation can be explained as irregular, difficult bowel movements on a regular basis, which may affect the normal physical and mental wellbeing of an individual.

 What leads to Constipation?

  • An inadequate diet characterized by low fibre, magnesium, folic acid & other B vitamins and high on sugar and refined food products.
  • Inadequate fluid/water intake.
  • Daily usage of laxatives results in constant stimulation of the bowels that interferes with the natural gut functions.
  • Lack of physical activity, sleep and high-stress levels.
  • Medications like iron pills, antacids, diuretics, painkillers and antidepressants.
  • Suppressing the urge to eliminate the bowels is a major cause of chronic constipation.

Symptoms of constipation can include:

Stomach pain, bloating, discomfort, headaches, nausea, malaise, appetite loss, indigestion, bad breath, uneasiness, and irritable mood swings. Chronic constipation may even cause haemorrhoids.

Course Of Action:

  • Increase your fluid/water intake.
  • Improve your diet with increased fibre and overall vitamin status by incorporating whole grains, pulses, raw fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, green leafy vegetables.
  • Engage in daily physical activity, adequate sleep and relaxation techniques

Relax and take time to relieve the bowels whenever the urge is felt. Don’t ignore this problem, that could actually be an underlying cause of many health issues in the long run. It’s Nature’s Call…. Listen to the Call!
